Our RHE/RSE programme is held within our PSHE curriculum and will teach about relationships, love and care, and the responsibilities of parenthood, as well as sex. Young people need a clear understanding of the arguments for and against sexual activity as well as resisting pressure, including the various moral and practical issues which need to be considered. We teach explicitly about healthy relationships and the impact of sexual violence, harassment and consent. It may be necessary to link Relationship and Sex education with issues of peer pressure and other risk-taking behaviour, such as drugs, smoking and alcohol, and ensure that young people understand how the law applies to sexual relationships.
To support our pupils we are also a registered C Card provider.
Right to Withdraw
Parents can withdraw their children from parts of the RHE/RSE curriculum which explicitly teach about sex education, through consultation with the school. You should contact your child's Head of Year if you wish to discuss this. Please note that this does not apply to sex education included within the science curriculum, which is compulsory. Older pupils can opt back into RHE/RSE in the curriculum three terms prior to their 16th birthday, even if their parents have expressed a desire to withdraw them.
